Potli Therapy helps reduce muscle pain, joint stiffness, and inflammation. It is commonly used for conditions like back pain, sciatica, arthritis, and general body fatigue. It also improves blood circulation and helps balance the body’s Vata dosha.

The frequency depends on your condition. For chronic pain or arthritis, it may be recommended 2–3 times a week initially. For general wellness, once a week or occasional sessions are usually sufficient, based on practitioner advice.

The frequency depends on your individual needs and lifestyle. Many people benefit from a weekly session, while others may choose bi-weekly or monthly treatments. An Ayurvedic practitioner can recommend a schedule based on your body type and wellness goals.

Potli Therapy can use different herbal preparations depending on the condition:

  • Navara Kizhi: cooked rice in milk and herbal decoction
  • Podi Kizhi: medicated herbal powder
  • Ela Kizhi: fresh herbal leaves

These are heated and tied into cloth boluses (potlis) before application.

Most people can safely undergo Potli Therapy, especially those with muscular or joint pain. However, it may not be suitable for people with acute inflammation, open wounds, skin infections, or certain medical conditions. A consultation is recommended before starting.

During the session, warm herbal potlis are gently pressed, tapped, or massaged over affected areas of the body. The therapy is usually soothing and slightly warm, and may cause mild sweating due to detoxification effects. Sessions typically end with rest to allow the body to absorb the benefits.
